Day 9 | Wednesday, May 29

This morning we did a mini photo shoot. Michaela's mom needed a "senior" picture of her for a slide show at their church, so we went outside and snapped some pics.

The bloopers!

We call this particular one the "beard picture". Emily told Michaela she'd take a picture of her jumping, but Mike's hair kind of got in the way...

Michaela is rather impressed with her own photography skills, Emily has trained her well...

A peach tree that Uncle Pooge started from a pit! Won't be long until they're ripe.

When Aunt Carole was done cutting her client's hair and we were done with the pictures, we went to Muir Woods to see the giant redwood trees!

This redwood tree cross section showed different dates on its rings, including Columbus's discovery of North America, the Declaration of Independence and the Jamestown Colony. The tree was supposedly around since 909 AD!

The park is full of hiking trails, so Aunt Carole sent us off exploring wherever we wanted.

Michaela was the official trail finder.

Most of the huge trees were blocked off by fences, but a couple you could get near.

Playing Hercules...

Michaela taking notes once again... This time it was because she wanted to remember what trail cut-offs we took!

Michaela climbed into this tree hollow first and made sure it was clear of spiders for Emily!

We took a several trails while hiking out, and attempted to take a different route back. Unfortunately, that particular part of the trail was poorly marked and we ended up off course. Instead of following the Oceanview Trail back to the Visitor Center we ended up on Panoramic View Trail. It was panoramic and lovely, but involved climbing many stairs up the mountain!

Isn't the view worth it? We tried talking ourselves into it, but we weren't quite convincing enough.

What can she say? Emily trusted the girl who can't find her way out of a paper bag as the navigator?!

After getting back from the hike we ate lunch at the park's cafe, then went home. We were both exhausted and slept in the car on the way home. Once we got back Michaela crashed in bed and slept for an over hour and a half! Emily finally dragged her out of bed so we could go to dinner.

Aren't they sweet?!

  1. Ah, so you've gotten to see the Redwoods! Aren't they spectacular? I've spent most every summer of my life camping in them. :)
